I haven’t said I’m above the law; I am no King Kong – Woyome

Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has decried impressions in the media that make him appear to go against a Supreme Court ruling to pay back a GH¢51.2million judgement debt wrongfully given him by the state.

According to him, he is neither ‘above the law’ nor ‘a King Kong’ but absolutely disagrees with the ruling that has ordered him to refund the money, hence fighting it separately at the International Court.

Speaking to the press Friday, Woyome said he is committed to the refund as expected of him by law and by a payment plan agreed with the Attorney General.

“The erroneous impression that Alfred Woyome said he will not pay is not true. From the very moment that the judgement was given, I said I disagree and I served notice for the International Court,” he stated.

Woyome added: “It is not that because I have accepted to pay means that I have accepted the judgement… but I have accepted to pay because it is lawful and we must do it. I’m not above the law; I’m not King Kong, no!. It is contrary…”

Woyome further revealed in his media briefing that until recently, “several payment arrangements” he proposed were rejected.

He has, since sealing the payment plan with the Attorney General, released an initial amount of GH¢4million of the judgement debt with a schedule quarterly payment of GH¢5million from April 2017 to 2019.
