I Have No Eyes On Obed?s Job ? Ohene-Agyekum

A leading member of the National Democratic(NDC),Mr Daniel Ohene-Agyekum,has dismissed speculations in the media that he is being prepared to wrest the chairmanship position from Dr Obed Yao Asamoah.

?I can confidently tell you that all these are speculations.I have never dreamt of being the chairman of the party,?he added.

He said there were more pressing issues to deal with in the party, especially reorganising the ward, constituency and regional branches prior to the congress in September.

Mr Ohene-Agyekum was reacting to media speculations that he was the favourite among supposed sections in the party which were opposed to the chairmanship of Dr Asamoah.

He said the party hierarchy was currently more concerned about putting in place effective strategies to strengthen the structures of the party.Mr Ohene-Agyekum explained that such activities required time, managerial skills and resources and those were the things he and other executives had preoccupied themselves with, not how to attain positions.

He expressed concern about what he termed enemies of the NDC who concocted stories just to sow seeds of enmity and confusion among the rank and file of the party.

Mr Ohene-Agyekum explained that there was no institution in the world that had no problems to grapple with, but said it was very disheartening to see people making statements with the view to heightening tension.

He said the NDC was a formidable party that had the capacity to contain and resolve all its internal problems and made it clear that all was not as bad as people would want those outside the party to believe.

Asked whether the speculation was not coming from people who thought he had the acumen and capacity to be elected as chairman of the party, he said,?I am honoured to hear that, but, please let us wait.?

Mr Ohene-Agyekum said people should not forget that the NDC had a constitution which it followed in removing people from positions and filling those positions, adding that people interested in positions should wait patiently till September to appear before the congress to test their popularity among the rank and file of the party.

On suggestions that he was being encouraged by former President Rawlings to replace Dr Asamoah,he debunked the assertion and said, ?I am not a stooge for anybody.?

He indicated that he was an independent-minded person who would not allow himself to be used by anybody, but was quick to add that all those allegations were part of the machinations by the detractors of the NDC to perpetuate personality clashes and create the erroneous impression that all was not well with the party.

Mr Ohene-Agyekum advised the supporters, sympathisers, branch, constituency and national executives of the party to be steadfast in order not to be carried away by such lies.
