‘I have lost my best friend’ – Asante Akim MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim Central, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi says he has lost his “best friend” after the tragic loss of his daughter.

Adwoa Agyarkwa Anyimadu-Antwi, a first-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is believed to have hanged herself on Friday, February 24.

Addressing his colleague MPs when they visited him Monday at his East Legon residence to commiserate with him, Mr. Anyimadu-Antwi said it had been the most difficult moment in his life after he finally found out that his eldest daughter who was reading chemistry at KNUST had indeed committed suicide as alleged by the school’s authorities.

“As of now I have tried hard to find answers to the puzzle as to why my daughter could die in such a tragic manner because we provided everything for her and made sure she was always happy. She was my best friend.”

Mr. Anyimadu-Antwi stated that he was informed of the death of his daughter Friday when he was in Parliament.

The MP who was visibly shocked at the news also used the opportunity to advice parents to pray for their children consistently since anything could happen to them at any time.

“One thing I have learnt from the death of my daughter is that this unfortunate incident could happen to anybody or any family and that as parents we need to constantly pray for our children in school so that such things do not befall them,” he said.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Adwoa Agyarkwa Anyimadu-Antwi have asked the police to conduct a full scale investigation into the incident surrounding the death of the 18-year-old.
