I have lost confidence in the Public Accounts Committee – Hon Alex Kofi Agyekum

The Member of Parliament for Mpohor Constituency and member of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, Hon. Alex Kofi Agyekum has said that he has lost confidence in the committee and doubts its credibility.

Speaking on the issue on Agoo FM’s evening news analysis program “Na Wo Kaa No Sen” with Nanayaa Mirekua, the MP for Mpohor said the committee is mandated to carry out such duties as stipulated by law, but issues being discussed in the Auditor General’s report for past three years involve individuals who are no longer staff of the institutions and so the wrong individuals are being made to appear before the committee.

The people who steal the money should rather be questioned not the institutions, therefore, measures should be put in place to bring persons involved in the crime. “I don’t see why this should continue, I don’t want to bring too much meaning to this,” he said.

He added that members of the public are the best judges to assess whether the committee has achieved its purpose for the reason why it was set up. According to him a lot of officials have caused financial loss to the state but are living freely.
