I had my gari and shito ready for prison – Adorye confesses

Convicted New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member, Hopeson Adorye has expressed shock at the Supreme Court decision to fine him on his contempt of court charges.

According to him, he had his small “gari and shito” ready in anticipation of a possible jail sentence.

Hopeson and the NPP’s General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John were found guilty of intentional criminal contempt and fined GH¢ 2,000 and GH¢5,000 respectively to be paid at the end of Thursday August 15,2013.

They are also to sign a bond of good behavior and apologize on the radio stations they used in spewing out disparaging remarks.

Speaking in an interview on Oman FM Thursday, a reformed Hopeson Adorye was grateful to the judges for tempering justice with mercy.

He apologized profusely for what he described as a misguided comment and vowed never to repeat that mistake.

“I have regretted my actions and am very grateful to the Supreme Court judges,” he added.

Hopeson noted that the judges have sanitized the airwaves and have demonstrated that the judiciary unlike other arms of government cannot be taken for a ride.

He said this should be a big lesson for all Ghanaians especially political commentators to be circumspect in their utterances.

Hopeson Adorye was also thankful to the former Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori for paying GH¢2,000 fine.
