Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the Black Queens’ outstanding bonuses following their 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Adams revealed that he had personally contributed $10,000 to the team after they secured a third-place finish at the tournament in Morocco.
“I personally gave the Black Queens $10,000 for their WAFCON 2024 third-place finish,” the Minister said. “President Mahama also gifted them GHC 500,000 in appreciation. Settling their bonuses is a process, but we are committed.”
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between the players and the Sports Ministry over unpaid bonuses and per diems, which led to a brief training boycott ahead of their 2026 WAFCON qualifier against Egypt.
Adams’ comments are part of broader efforts by government officials to restore calm and reassure the team that their financial concerns will be addressed.
The Black Queens are due to face Egypt in the return leg of their qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium, holding a 3-0 lead from the first leg in Ismailia.
