President John Dramani Mahama has reassured the citizenry that he is “committed to working in the best interest” of all and has expressed his resolve to effect the needed positive change.
According to him, he “envisions success for the nation” just as everyone else.
The president has come under several criticisms and in some cases, derision in recent times over his style of governance. Indeed, just this week, there were reports of a purported resignation of the president.
However hoax the report was, it sent uncontrollable ripples and shivers down the spines of those who heard it.
The spurious letter, which went viral on social media, indicated President Mahama has tendered in his resignation as President of the Republic of Ghana. It prompted a swift denial from the Presidency.
Again, a group calling itself the Concerned Ghanaians for Responsible Governance (CGRG) raised concerns about the ever-depreciating value of the Ghanaian cedi, constant increases in taxes, inefficient revenue collection and very poor road networks in the country.
Among other things, the group also nagged over the constant increments in utility tariffs, erratic supply of electricity, frequent increase in the prices of petroleum products and the government’s inability to make statutory payments on time to schools, health facilities and other state institutions to effectively carry out their duties.
These, according to the group, have made life very unbearable for the citizenry when they defied the heavy morning rains on July 1, 2014 to carry out their mission of “Occupy Flagstaff House” to petition the government.
However, President Mahama believes that despite the unfortunate hardship Ghanaians are experiencing in recent times and the flood of criticisms being directed at him, he shares the same dream of success that the Ghanaian citizenry eagerly anticipates.
“I envision the same success and prosperity for this nation that you envision,” the president tweeted Wednesday morning.
“This is our country, our home, and all Ghanaians deserve to have the ability to live, work and raise our families here [Ghana] with dignity and pride.”
“I am committed to working in the best interests of all citizens. I have not forgotten that one of the greatest virtues of leadership is the ability to listen. I want to assure you that we will create change. We will build the sort of country that we will be proud to hand down to our children,” he tweeted.
