I don’t fear election defeat: I’II continue to clamp down on galamsey – Nana Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says threats to vote him out in the 2020 election will not stop his government’s anti-galamsey fight.

Speaking at the commissioning of an ICT Center at Suabe in the Eastern Regional town of Akyem Wenchi Wednesday, the president said he will continue the fight against galamsey to preserve our environment.

“Mining along the water bodies cannot continue if we want to preserve nature and our water. It cannot continue,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo has been threatened by some miners that they will vote against him in 2020 should he carry through plan stop galamsey in the country.

The Small Scale Miners Association in Kumasi also said it intends to petition the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to talk to government to reconsider the galamsey crackdown.

The group at a meeting on Tuesday called on President Akufo-Addo to roll out his plan in giving small scale miners the opportunity to operate legally.
