I don’t believe in ‘systems and structures’ – KAMA boss

One of Ghana’s most accomplished industrialist, Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, says he does not believe in “systems and structures” in organisational set ups.

According to him, he is more impressed with employee loyalty and commitment to the organisation than competence.

Contributing to a discussion on ‘employee attitude’ on Morning Starr Tuesday, the Chief Executive officer of the KAMA Group told host Nii Arday Clegg that many of the bureaucracies in Ghanaian organisations do not necessarily lead to higher productivity.

“I don’t believe in systems and structures, but the responsibility of the workers. Some people are not good but they’re loyal and not arrogant…that can influence the salary structure and how they are seen by employers,” he noted.

The business magnate added also that most private companies pay more attention to the skill set and experiences of employees than their certificates.

“Most of the time, the certificate does not matter, it is the skills and the competence we look for. In private companies, we believe in results and not certificate, we pay for the skill”.

For her part, lifestyle coach Dzigbordi Dosoo said it is important for employers to identify the unique skill set of their employees in order to get the best out of them.

She noted however that outrageous salary disparities can be a major demotivating factor for hardworking employees.
