Accra, Oct. 22, GNA – The Reverend R.K. Asamoah-Prah, Atonsu District Minister of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has denied saying; “Presbyterian Church of Ghana is spiritually dry” in response to a Ghana News Agency story carried in the Monday, October 20 edition of “The Ghanaian Times”.
“In the said publication the reporter quoted me as saying, ‘Leadership of the Church, and congregations at both District and National levels were not spiritually inclined and had made it difficult for the Church, established about 180 years ago, to grow and increase in membership as compared to other Churches established less than 50 years ago.’
“What I actually said was that, ‘the newly elected leaders should be more spiritually inclined to help the Esereso Congregation to grow. I did further say; comparing the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, which was established some 180 years ago to certain Churches which are 50 years old or even less in terms of numerical growth, shows that we as a Church need to be more evangelistic inclined to help to move the Church forward.
“I, therefore, urged the newly inducted Presbyters and for that matter all Leaders of the Church to spearhead the spiritual revival of the Church and not “to set the agenda for spiritual revival in the Church” as was published. “Knowing very well the crop of Ministers at the helm of affairs of the Church, from the Head Office, Presbyteries, Districts and certain locals, it would have been very unfortunate on my part to have said what was reported,” he said.
The Ghana News Agency in the original story said, Reverend Asamoah-Prah observed that spiritual revival has been a bane on the growth of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG). He was reported to have said the Leadership of the church in the congregations, districts and national levels were not spiritually inclined and that had made it difficult for the Church established about 180 years ago not to grow and increase in membership as compared to some churches established less than 50 years ago in the country. Rev. Asamoah-Prah was delivering a sermon at the induction of a seven-member Session for Esereso Lake Road Congregation of the Church in Kumasi.
