Accra, Aug. 29, GNA – The daughter of Mr Kwaku Ansah-Asare, Director of the Ghana School of Law, on Monday declared that she qualified as a lawyer before enrolling at the Ghana School of Law for the post-call course.
In an open letter to the Committee probing allegations of wrongdoing against his father, Ms Irene Ansah-Asare, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency, challenged evidence before the Committee that she did not qualify to pursue the Post-Call programme. “I am amazed and pained by the falsehoods, which are being propagated by Mr Maxwell Opoku Agyeman, Dr K. O. Adinkra and Mr Albert Adaare against me,” she said.
“The allegation that I have no law degree and have not been called to the English Bar is an outrageous lie, which baffles me. Any assertion that I filled out an application form ex-post facto is mischievous and false.”
Ms Ansah-Asare said she enrolled in the University of Leicester, England, in September 1998 and graduated with an LLB degree in 2001. She said she then proceeded to the Cardiff Business School in the University of Wales, Cardiff, to pursue a Master’s degree in Business Administration and completed in 2002 with an MBA degree. Ms Ansah-Asare said she was admitted into the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London, on June 27, 2002 preparatory to Call to the Bar of England and Wales.
“I was called to the Bar of England and Wales on July 22, 2004, after successfully completing the Bar Vocational Course at the Cardiff Law School in the University of Wales, Cardiff.”
Ms Ansah-Asare said she returned to Ghana immediately to do the Post-Call course at the Ghana School of Law to qualify for enrolment as a lawyer in Ghana.
She said she dully registered at the School on July 26, 2004 by completing an application form.
Ms Ansah-Ansah said Mr Ansah-Asare paid the appropriate registration fee of 500,000 cedis and 34 million cedis being the equivalent of the course fee of 2,000 pounds on her behalf. “I took part in the Post-Call course and passed the subsequent examination. I was enrolled as a lawyer in Ghana on October 4, 2004.”
