Hypertension on the increase in the Bosomtwe District

Healthcare providers in the Bosomtwe District have expressed worry over the upsurge of hypertension in the area.

Mr. Joseph Adomako, the District Director of Health Service, said the first six months of the year recorded 6,631 cases compared with the 2011 mid-year figure of 4,664 cases.

Speaking at the half-year performance review meeting of the health directorate at Kokoado, he said the situation was quite disturbing and that changing lifestyles and eating habits were to be blamed.

He encouraged the people to adopt regenerative health by eating healthy and balanced diet, regular physical exercises, taking enough rest and drinking lots of water.

He urged the health workers to work hard and show professionalism and empathy in their work.

Mr. Adomako said the lack of funds was a major challenge and that they were finding it difficult to run the facilities because of the non-payment of government’s subvention.

Dr. Ebenezer Obu, Medical Superintendent of the Kuntanase Government Hospital, urged the health professionals to constantly upgrade themselves to prove equal to changing demands and trends in the health practice.

Mr. Kwaku Afful, the Deputy Coordinating Director, said the district assembly was doing all it could to make quality healthcare accessible to the people.

He said the assembly already built clinics at Abono, Adwumam and Oyoko and appealed to the health directorate to post personnel there to man those facilities.

He gave high marks to the health workers for their passion and dedication towards saving lives.**
