Hunting season closes

Accra, July 27, GNA – The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission on Friday announced the close of this year’s hunting season from August 1 to the end of December to offer respite to animals to reproduce.

During the close season it is an offence for anyone to capture or kill any wildlife except grass cutter (akrantie). A statement the Wildlife Division issued said; 93one needs a licence to hunt grass cutters. This way the use of chemicals and other dangerous or unorthodox means can be monitored and curtailed=94. The statement urged the public not to patronise any bush meat apart from grass cutters so that hunters would find it uneconomical to hunt for the other animals.

It appealed to the Police to arrest and to prosecute such offenders by notifying the nearest Wildlife Division and Forestry Commission Offices or the Executive Director, Wildlife Division on Tel. 021-664654/662360 28 July 06
