Sekondi, Jan. 30, GNA – Mr. George I. Amoo, the National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has said indiscriminate hunt for game was a source of worry to the organisation. He said many hunters set fires to trap animals and in the process destroy large tracts of farmlands, houses and local storage facilities. Mr. Amoo, who was speaking at a press soiree, said many of the fires are man-made and efforts must be made to reverse the trend. He said many families and communities loose valuable artefacts, relics and other valuable properties.
Mr. Amoo called for joint education campaigns to sensitise farmers and hunters to seek the assistance of fire and disaster volunteers before they set any fires in the bush.
He said the various road agencies must collaborate in their operations and ensure that dangers along roads networks were addressed. Mr. Amoo said the absence of crash barriers, safety rails, road signs, white markings on roads must receive urgent attention to safeguard drivers and prevent more road accidents.
