Wassa Akropong (W/R), April 2, GNA – The Wassa Akropong Police have arrested Alhasan Grumah, a 50-year-old hunter, resident at Bruso, a farming cottage near Wassa Akropong in the Western Region for murder. Police Chief Inspector Nelson Agbi, in charge of the Wassa Akropong Police told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, on March 21 at about 1530 hours, the hunter returned home from his farm with his fully loaded locally manufactured gun and leaned it against a wall and left for his room to change his clothes.
Unknown to Grumah, his eight-year-old son Kwame Addisey, a class three pupil of Bruso D/C Primary School had also returned from school and was in the kitchen.
According to Inspector Agbi, the gun, which was leaning against the wall, fell on the ground, and went off, hitting the boy in the chest and the leg.
Inspector Agbi said Grumah allegedly rushed to the scene on hearing the gun’s explosion only to find his son lying in a pool of blood. The child was rushed to the Dunkwa on Offin Government Hospital in the Central Region, where he was pronounced dead. Inspector Agbi said the suspect later reported himself to Mr Maxwell Oppong, assemblyman for the area, who then took Grumah to the Police.
Inspector Agbi, however, said the suspect had been remanded and would appear before the Wassa Akropong magistrate court on April 13.
