‘Hungry’ media give coverage to NDC, NPP because of money – Wayo

Some smaller political parties in the country are lamenting over the lack of media attention given them ahead of the December Polls.

The parties allege that the media has been bribed by the bigger parties such as the NDC and the NPP hence its concentration on the bigger parties leaving the smaller parties behind.

Founder and Leader of the United Renaissance Party, (URP), Kofi Wayo, blames the situation on the poor economic status of most journalists in the country.

“You can’t blame the media because they are hungry, they [NDC and NPP] have kept them hungry for a long time so they can use them that way, we understand and don’t expect much.

“It is a fight for God and country. All the pressmen are with the NPP and NDC because that is where they get their ‘noko fio’. We are not prepared to give any money because we are here to fight to liberate the people.

“Instead of giving them [Journalists] ‘soli’ and all that, give them good pay so that they can take care of themselves” Kofi Wayo said.

Presidential aspirant for the Independent People’s Party, Kofi Akpaloo shares similar sentiments.

He however stated boldly that his party would survive with or without the media.

But the story is quite different for Madam Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party.

The 58-year-old first female Presidential candidate who cannot speak English in an interview with XYZ News said she has received fair coverage from the media so far attributing it to the fact that she is a woman.

The media follow me wherever I go. Some of them even call me for interviews. I am not scared of the big parties because Ghanaians believe in vision for them.
