Hundreds besiege Ho Post Office for Fire Service recruitment forms

Hundreds of young people Wednesday morning besieged the offices of the Ghana Post Company Limited seeking to by application forms for possible recruitment into the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

As early as 0730 hours, long queues were formed at the premises of the Company with some of the queues extending to the courtyard of nearby Vodafone Ghana.

At about 1100 hours, the crowd became very thick necessitating officials of Ghana Post to suspend the sale of the forms until 1500 hours. Among the crowd were some elderly people and security personnel seeking to buy the forms for their children and relations.

Some of the elderly, who could not stand in the queues, were compelled to seat on the lawns on the premises.

There were reported cases of theft of mobile phones and other valuables. Sylvester Tetteh, an applicant, told the GNA that he came a few minutes after 0800 hours to meet a long queue and was unable to buy his form as at 1130 hours. He said this was his third time of applying to join the Service and was optimistic of making it this time.

Some officials of Ghana Post intermittently assured the prospective applicants to exercise restraint as there were enough application forms. A senior officer who was controlling the sale of the forms objected to a military officer who wanted to buy more than five forms.
