Hundred students in Akyemansa to benefit from free SHS

Under the progressive free secondary school education, 100 students have been selected from both the Akokoaso Senior Technical School and Ayirebi Senior High School, to benefit from the “Free SHS”.

Mr. Tom Budu, Akyemansa District Chief Executive (DCE), was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Ofoase in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.

“Government would take care of the school fees and basic needs of the students, such as school bags, uniforms, pocket money, sandals and in addition provide sanitary pads, braziers for the female students”, he said.

The DCE said the Assembly was working hard to get the Akokoaso Senior Technical School a “pick-up” vehicle, while it has awarded a contract for the construction of mechanized borehole for the Akokoaso Senior High School

He disclosed that the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) centre at the district capital (Ofoase) was hundred per cent complete, and that government had provided computers and pieces of furniture, saying, this would soon be commissioned for use.

Mr. Budu noted that the district’s performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) had stepped up from 27 per cent through 49 per cent, and therefore urged parents to endeavor to supplement teachers’ efforts to sustain and improve upon the grade.

The DCE stated that government has selected aged persons from 16 communities in the district, to benefit from the Livelihood Empowerment Programme (LEAP), and listed Adubiase, Kwaboadi, Gyewani Nkwanta, Betenase, Breku, Gyaha, Zevor Ayeboafo, Otwereso, Ofoase and Akokoaso, as some of the beneficiary communities.
