The Lorna Crosse International Ministries, a humanitarian development organisation, is supporting the South Sissala Development Programme, with 750 million US dollars, towards the improvement of the livelihoods of the people.
Reverend Dr. Lorna Crosse, founder of the organisation, said the money would be invested in agriculture, health, roads, and other economic projects, to help reduce poverty and deprivation among the people.
She said the money would be spent on aquaculture and animal husbandry, mango and cashew plantations, and the construction of dams to support vegetable and food crop production.
Rev. Dr Crosse was speaking at a durbar at Funsi in the South Sissala District in the Upper West Region, to announced the projects to the people.
She said agricultural mechanization centres would be provided to make farm machinery, especially tractor services and other inputs would be made available at affordable cost to farmers.
Rev. Dr. Crosse said health facilities such as mobile clinic services would be provided while feeder and link roads would be constructed to open up the communities for economic development.
She said technical and vocational training schools; community libraries and Information and Communication Technology Centres would be established to cater for the educational needs of the youth.
Rev. Dr. Crosse said a community FM Radio and Television Station would also be set up to help in the education of the people, especially on health, agriculture, environment, sanitation and other national issues.
She tasked executives of the South Sissala Development Programme to work with stakeholders in the Region, especially the Wa East District Assembly to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.
Mallam Nalayakina Dumah, an elder of the Funsi Community, thanked Rev. Crosse and the humanitarian organisation contributing to the development of the area, and pledged the people’s support for the projects.
Madam Janet Haruna, Assembly Member for Yala-Kulun Electoral Area, appealed to the organisation to support women in the area with micro-finance facility to enable them to undertake economic ventures.
Rev. Dr Crosse is an African American from California in the United States of America, and the organisation has been offering humanitarian services to deprive and poor communities to improve their economic circumstances.
