Human resource development is the key to ICT- Tandoh.

Accra, March 1, GNA – Major Joseph R.K Tandoh (rtd), Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), has called for the development of the human resource base of the country’s telecommunication sector to meet current global challenges.

He said due to the emerging trends of Information Communication Technology (ICT) there was the need to place a high premium on the development and knowledge of the human resource capital.

Maj Tandoh’s speech was read for him at a workshop organized by the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organization (CTO), with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Centring on the human resource development for West African Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (WATRA), the workshop was aimed at creating the needed environment for financing infrastructure and the much-needed human expertise in the area of telecommunication.

Maj Tandoh observed that the human resource of every organization was its most valuable asset, and said Ghanaians had a vision to transform the nation into an information and knowledge-based society. Maj Tandoh said this could only be achieved through the training and development of the available human resource.

He said President John Agyekum Kufuor has just commissioned an ultra modern ICT Centre to train all levels of ICT professionals and there was the need for such workshops to assist members in the WATRA Region to develop their human resource in line with current practices in the ICT world.

In all, 25 participants came from the West African Sub-Region, including those from the Democratic Republic of Congo. 01 March 04
