Kumasi, Aug. 31, GNA – Mr Samuel Sarpong, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, has said human resource development was a key priority on the government’s development agenda. He said it was convinced that this was necessary to inject pace into the country’s socio-economic progress. Mr Sarpong was addressing the opening session of the 19th annual conference of the Ghana Association of Business Education Teachers (GABET) at the Anglican Senior High School in Kumasi. The theme was: 93Accounting Software – its relevance to contemporary busi= ness.”
The MCE underlined the need to strengthen business education to whip up students’ interest in private enterprise and create the foundation for entrepreneurship He said it was important to create opportunities and encourage the youth to venture into all sectors of the economy. Mr Sarpong said they needed to be equipped with the skills and best practices to become more competitive in the current global business economy. He asked the Conference to come out with a well structured course outline that could help students to achieve entrepreneurial excellence for consideration by the government. Mr Joseph Onyinah, the Regional Director of Education, (GES), in a speech read for him, said the Ghana Education Service (GES) was doing everything to promote teacher development, which was critical to quality education delivery. He said the acquisition of appropriate technological skills, knowledge and good attitudes would undoubtedly lead to the creation of quality human resource.
He advised teachers to avoid bad habits including lateness, absenteeism and misuse of school contact hours. The National President of GABET, Mr Joseph Addo, said it was important to keep pace with changing trends in global education and societal needs.
A lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus, Dr Joseph M’bamuni asked business tutors to be computer-literate to ensure accuracy and validity of accounting information to improve efficiency in their work.
