How A Soldier Was Lynched At North Suntreso

A witness who appeared before the Justice Abraham committee investigating the North Suntreso mayhem last week narrated how the late soldier, Private Emmanuel Quansah was lynched by a group of civilians at north Suntreson.

According to him, on the night of the 25th of April he was in the company of the soldier at a drinking bar before the incident.

He said whilst at the bar, the soldier handed over his mobile phone and army cap to a waitress by name Grace before moving out with the promise of returning. The witness said after waiting for sometime without the soldier showing up at the bar, he decided to look for him. He continued that after looking for his whereabouts for sometime, he saw the soldier running towards him with a group of thugs pursuing him.

He added that he intervened by telling the thugs that they were assaulting a soldier but to no avail. He noted that when he realized that his pleas were not being taken seriously he ran to inform personnel at the 2 Brigade Complex but when he returned with the army officials they found out that the soldier had been lynched by the mob.

After the hearing, members of the committee toured the North Suntreso area to ascertain for themselves the extent of damage caused by the people which the residents suspect were retaliating soldiers. The committee also visited victims of the alleged act reprisal. Among them was the 79 year old woman Marian Alberta Cornelius, who was assaulted by the group suspected to be soldiers.
