HOUSING LOAN SCHEME

About six billion 763 million cedis has so far been disbursed on the Public Servants Housing Loan Scheme which was established in 1975. The Executive Secretary of the Public Servants Housing Loan Scheme Board, Mr. Albert Collison, with Gri correspondent, James Amoak, in an interview in Accra, said a total of one thousand 545 workers nationwide have so far benefited from the loan scheme with 470 applications yet to be processed. He said Public Servant who have completed a three-year probation period qualify for the loan which is 20 times the applicant’s annual salary. The loan which is recoverable within a period of 30 years attracts an interest of two-and-a-half percent. Mr. Collison said beneficiaries of the loan are to take a mortgage insurance policy against the house or estate acquired with the loan. He said workers of public institutions like the Customs Excise And Preventive Service And Internal Revenue Service which have their own housing loan schemes, are not eligible for the Public Servants Housing Loan Scheme. gri
