Kumasi, April 29, GNA – A Kumasi circuit court has remanded a houseboy for stealing items worth over 48 million cedis belonging to his employer.
Prosper Kofi Opoku Mensah, who pleaded guilty to all charges of unlawful entry, causing damage and stealing, will re-appear on May 5. Police Chief Inspector Janet Oseiwaah told the court that Mr Augustine Opoku, the complainant, is a contractor who lives with his family at Atasemanso in Kumasi and that he had employed the accused as a houseboy.
On February 12, Mr Opoku left the house for a funeral at Ejisu so Prosper and her master’s wife were the only people left in the house. No sooner had his employer’s wife left the house for the market than the accused broke into four of the rooms in the house and made away with electronic gadgets such as DVD, a computer game, Ghetto blasters and jewellery, all worth over 48 million cedis.
When she returned from the market and saw what had happened she telephoned her husband and they made a report to the police. Investigations led to the arrest of Mensah and they found on him 42 million cedis, 400 pounds sterling and 850 dollars.
The court ordered that the registrar should keep the foreign currencies and the cedis were given to the complainant.
