Houseboy in court for allegedly raiding master’s house

Accra, Aug. 29, GNA – A houseboy who allegedly raided his master’s house and stole personal effects valued at millions of cedis, on Monday appeared before an Accra Regional Tribunal.

Aikins Appiah, 25, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and stealing and was admitted to a 200 million-cedi bail with one surety. Appiah would reappear on September 9.

Presenting the facts of the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr George Abavelin told the tribunal chaired by Mr Justice Frank Manu that the accused person was a houseboy at Maamobi in Accra, while Mr Oppong Amoako, the complainant was his master and both of them lived together.

On June 8, this year, Mr Amoako left the house in the morning for work, leaving Appiah in the house. Mr Agbavelin said in the afternoon of that day, Mr Amoako received a telephone call that thieves had raided his house and stolen all his personal effects.

According to the Prosecutor, Mr Amoako rushed home and found Appiah lying on the floor with a piece of lace material tied to his hands. He said the complainant suspected a foul play and, therefore, handed him over to the Police where he made a formal report. Mr Agbavelin listed the stolen items as, two coloured television (21-inches), Toshiba multi-purpose video deck, and Philip sound system with two external speakers, portable car fridge and laptop computer and accessories.

The rest, according to him, were coloured printer, quantity of assorted wax prints, assorted footwear, suitcases and other valuables. He stated that the cost of the items was not immediately known. ASP Agbavelin said the case was under further investigations.
