House of Chiefs briefed on postponement of CWATR

Kumasi, July 22, GNA – The honorary title of “King of Kings of Africa” given to the Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was in appreciation to his efforts at bringing traditional rulers together to fulfill the continental union objective, Pugansoa Naa Professor John S.K. Nabila, President of the National House of Chiefs has explained.

He said this at a meeting in Kumasi on Tuesday to inform the chiefs on the postponement of the conference of West African Traditional Rulers (CWATR) scheduled to take place in Accra on August 24, this year. The conference, which aims at gathering delegations of kings, chiefs and Sultans from across West Africa, was to examine ways of building structures to further strengthen the institution of chieftaincy and to make it a real partner of development in Africa.

It was meant to be a follow up to the decisions and recommendations made

by chiefs on the continent at a meeting held in Benghazi, Libya, on August 28,

2008. Naa Professor Nabila, who is the Wulugu Naba, did not provide details

why the conference was postponed except to say that it was due to technical

difficulties. He also did not announce a reschedule date. Meanwhile, the National House of Chiefs has officially admitted Osagyefo

Amoatia Ofori Panin II, Omanhene of Akim Abuakwa as member. Justice Frank Kwadwo Amoah, a Supervising High Court Judge

administered the Oath of Secrecy to Osagyefo Ofori Panin II. Osagyefo Amoatia in his acceptance speech pledged to work in unity and

cooperation with the members of the House.
