House help fined 900,000 cedis for stealing iron rods

Tema, Nov. 17, GNA – A house help who took advantage of his master’s absence from home and stole 16 pieces of iron rods from the work yard, has been fined 900,000 cedis by the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’. Kwame Alhassan pleaded guilty and will go to prison for six months if he failed to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that in the morning of September 9, this year, the complainant was away from home and Alhassan sneaked into his (complainant’s) work yard, where building materials are kept. She said Alhassan stole 16 pieces of iron rods valued at 900,000 cedis and sold them to a customer at 300,000 cedis.

When the complainant returned home, he noticed a shortage of the iron rods and when he checked he found out that, they were short by 16 pieces. He then confronted the accused, who broke down and confessed that he took them and sold them out.

Inspector Assunta said a report was made to the Community Eight police and the accused was arrested and during investigations, he admitted the offence.
