Hospital administrators charged to produce manual

Atibie (E/R), Jan. 15, GNA- The Medical Superintendent of the Kwahu Government Hospital, Atibie, Dr Isaac Richard Osabutey, had challenged the Association of Health Service Administrators of Ghana (AHSAG) to come out with a standard administrative procedure manual for managing the various sectors of public hospitals in the country. According to him, such a document would help standardize administrative practices and management procedures to enhance performance.

Dr Osabutey said the document would also serve as a training material for up-and-coming administrators and also help build the capacity of members of the association in the efficient discharge of their duties.

He was speaking at the Third Annual Get-Together of the Eastern Regional Chapter of the AHSAG at Atibie at the weekend. Dr. Osabutey charged the health administrators to co-operate with the medical superintendents of the hospitals in order to move the hospitals forward.

The Eastern Regiona l Director of Health Services, Dr. Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyirah, called for high impact programmes for district-wide quality assurance, procurement, stock, financial maintenance and human resource management systems. He said the challenges of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) called for prudent management of available resources and effective documentation.

Dr. Appiah-Denkyira urged the health administrators to provide a clear job descriptions system for all staff in their facility and to ensure that the staff were regularly appraised. The out-going chairperson of the Association, Ms Evelyn Assiedu-Offei, advised her colleagues and heads of health institutions to ensure that the required procurement procedures were followed to avoid any brush with the law.
