Hook flood victims unto health insurance – Dr Nii Adjetey

Agona Swedru, July 13, GNA – Dr Nii Adjei Adjetey, Agona West Municipal Director of Health Services, has urged the Agona West Assembly to register flood victims with the National Health Insurance Scheme. Dr Adjetey, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, (GNA) at Agona Swedru, said this would enable them to get regular and quality health care for free.

The interview followed a ceremony at which the Ghana Red Cross Society presented relief items valued more than GHC104, 000 to the flood victims at Agona Swedru and Nyakrom, respectively. According to him, “all those affected should be hooked unto the Health Insurance Scheme to assist them to enjoy free medical care from the health facilities.”

He said currently, most of the victims were receiving free medical treatment from the Agona Swedru Government Hospital, adding that, the huge cost involved in offering them free treatment could not continue for long as the hospital was facing financial difficulties because of the situation.

Dr Adjetey, who is also the Chairman of the Sub-Committee of the Agona West Municipal Disaster Committee, stated that five clinics had been established at all the camps to offer them medical treatment. He said the Agona West Municipal Assembly could register all the 5,000 victims with the various health facilities under the National Health Insurance at the cost of GHC80, 000 to enable them get free medical service at their current camps, adding that, “If this is done there would be no problem with the health victims”. The director, consequently, made a passionate appeal to the Assembly to urgently look for financial assistance elsewhere for this important programme.
