Holy Child College silent due to strike

The Fijai Campus housing trainee teachers of the Holy Child College of Education is silent because trainees are still at home crying for better conditions.

Teacher training colleges in the country have been in the news recently over cancellation of allowance, and the issue on posting.

The would-be teachers are currently at home, leaving their classrooms empty, demanding that government restores their allowances and other benefits.

Ms Lisa Yeboah, Vice President of the school, who confirmed the strike action to the Ghana News Agency, said the 800 Ghana Cedis given as students loan, could not pay for the over 3,000 Ghana Cedis paid as school fees.

Again the student leader mentioned that students were not happy with the proposal that trained teachers should apply for jobs, instead of their usual postings by the Ghana Education Service.

Ms Yeboah expressed frustration about the move by stakeholders in education to allow trainees fund their one-year teaching practice.

The nation-wide strike enters its second day today.
