Hold together to grow the nation’s democracy – Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong

The Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has called on Ghanaians to hold together to grow the nation’s democracy.

He said all should continue to show responsibility in their actions and work hard to uphold the peace.

Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong said it was on this account that he found heartwarming the decision by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to go to court over what they perceived to be electoral cheating in the December 7 presidential polls, and not through violence.

It was a demonstration of their belief in the rule of law, he said, adding that this would undoubtedly help to strengthen and deepen the democratic practice.

The NPP is challenging the presidential election results declared by the Election Commission at the Supreme Court, alleging widespread flaws and discrepancies that went against its candidate.

The Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong, who was addressing a national convention of the Bible Study and Prayer Group (BSPG) of the church in Kumasi, noted the havoc, pain and suffering caused by disputed elections elsewhere in Africa, and said due processes must always remained the preferred choice.

The three days meeting was held under the theme: “The gift of the Holy Spirit towards effective discipleship”.

It provided the forum to discuss past activities of the group and the way forward to achieve spiritual growth and expand the membership of the church.

The Rev Dr Opuni-Frimpong urged them to remain firm in their faith, lead pure and upright lives, to become real agents of change in the society.

He encouraged them to undertake outreach programmes to bring people closer to God and help check the rise in social vices, threatening the stability of the society.

Mr Michael Opoku Mintah, National President of the BSPG, asked all members to get actively involve in its programmes and activities.
