Hold early congress in orphaned constituencies – Sarbah

Accra, June 8, GNA – The National Executive Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been called upon to consider organising an early delegates’ congress, to select Parliamentary Candidates for the 2012 elections, in constituencies it lost in the 2008 polls. This would enable the party to kick start its campaign to capture orphaned constituencies in the next general election. The suggestion was made by Mr Robert Sarbah, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Ablekuma Central in the 2008 elections in an interview with the GNA in Accra on Tuesday.

Mr Sarbah, who is also a former Constituency Chairman, stated that just as the National Congress to select a flag-bearer for the 2012 election would be held early, orphaned constituencies could also hold early congresses to select their Parliamentary Candidates.

He said this would help the Party to resolve all internal disputes early, to forge a united front well ahead of the elections, to brighten the chances of the NPP to clinch to victory form the next government. In his opinion, it would also give the Parliamentary Candidates, elected ample time to campaign.

Mr Sarbah, who is the Greater Accra Regional Vice Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), noted that the re-opening of the Voters Register for people, who have now qualified to exercise their franchise, should be a signal for the party to start preparation for the 2012 elections.

He stated that the 2012 elections would not be an easy task and called on the hierarchy of the NPP, not to leave anything to chance to enable the party to recapture power to continue its programme of national development in peace and prosperity. 8 June 10
