Hohoe Municipal Hospital not responsible for the death of worker

Mr. Emmanuel Aforbu, the Administrator of the Hohoe Municipal Hospital, has said the hospital would not hesitate to sanction any staff member, and called on the general public to report any untoward behaviour by workers of the hospital.

He said this when he met the GNA to discuss the report on the investigations on the cause of death of 22-year old Abdulai Madjid.

Madjid, whose untimely death occurred on Wednesday when he was electrocuted whiles offloading goods on the hospital premises, has created some tension and disturbance between the Hohoe Zongo community and the staff of hospital.

Eyewitnesses said Madjid, who was in the process of falling, grabbed a television pole which had a contact with an electrical cable and thus electrocuted Madjid whose shouts attracted his peers and was taken to the hospital.

He was then rushed to the emergency unit, a distance of about 350 metres away but Issah Mohamed who accompanied the deceased, claimed the staff at the emergency unit demanded a Health Insurance card before attending to Madjid and the delay in issuing the card led to his untimely death.

Mr. Aforbu said the nurses tried in vain to resuscitate the deceased with cardiac massage and other emergency resources but the deceased only gasped twice and passed-on.

He said it was possible that the period between his death and time to certify his death by a doctor might have heightened suspicions hence the accusation of laxity on the part of the nurses.

Mr. Aforbu said this might have incensed family members and friends to cause disturbance and assault to two mortuary men of the hospital, who were on duty to remove dead persons from the wards.

He said the assault case is now a subject of Police investigations as the mortuary men were beaten and sustained serious head injuries.**
