Ho Water workers undertake clean up to mark Water Day

Ho, March 22, GNA-To mark World Water Day last Friday, Workers of the Regional and District offices of the Ghana Water Company in Ho undertook a two- hour clean-up of the company’s premises and precincts. They cleared weeds, de-silted drains, swept hidden areas of the offices, packed out and burned disused items Workers started arriving at their yard as early as 0645 hours, the men with cutlasses and the women with brooms and dusters and by 0800 hours the cleaning had finished for them to go back to their offices. Later in the morning some management staff accompanied 41 pupils and two teachers of the Ho Police Depot Junior High School (JHS) on a guided tour of the Kpeve Water Pumping Station, which supplies water to the Ho Municipality.

At the close of the two-hour tour the pupils wanted to know, among others why water, an essential commodity, was not free and also if there was the possibility of a private company entering the business of providing water for the people.

Mr Philip Dwamena-Boateng, Volta Regional Production Manager of the Ghana Water Company said clean water was expensive to produce and hardly free in any country. He said productions structures could be varied for private companies to enter the potable water business. Mr Dwamena-Boateng stressed that water was not a limitless resource despite the large space it occupied on the universe and therefore must be used with a lot of circumspection.
