Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, has been chosen to host the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration — the second time in six years that the city will stage the national event. The last time Ho hosted the occasion was in 2019 during the 35th edition.
Speaking about the selection, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu described it as a well-deserved recognition of the region’s vital role in ensuring Ghana’s food security. “From our fertile plains and vibrant fisheries to our growing business sector, the Volta Region continues to play a key role in feeding Ghana and supporting livelihoods across the agricultural value chain,” he said at a media briefing held at the Ho Residency on Monday.
The national celebration, scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, will be held under the theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.” Mr Gunu noted that the theme underscores the shared responsibility of all Ghanaians to promote self-sufficiency in food production while encouraging the consumption of local foods to strengthen national resilience.
He added that hosting the event would bring significant economic benefits to the region. The arrival of visitors, dignitaries, and exhibitors, he said, would boost local commerce and tourism. “The businesses of hotels, restaurants, transport operators, and various trading activities will expand and increase the regional economy’s revenue,” the minister stated.
Mr Gunu also mentioned that the event would highlight the Volta Region’s agricultural potential and attract investors in agro-processing, mechanisation, and value addition.
On tourism, he said the celebration offers a unique opportunity to showcase the region’s natural attractions, including Mountain Afadza, Wli Waterfalls, and the Volta Lake. The occasion, he said, would also inspire more young people to venture into agriculture and agri-business, thereby reducing unemployment. “Hosting the event ensures increased visibility and government focus on the Volta Region’s agricultural needs and development priorities,” he added.
Ahead of the national event, district and regional Farmers’ Day celebrations will take place in various localities. The minister assured that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council was working closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, municipal and district assemblies, the private sector, and the media to ensure a successful event.
Mr Gunu also announced that the 7th Volta Trade and Investment Fair would take place in Ho from November 26 to December 6, 2025. The fair is expected to attract around 900 exhibitors from Ghana and countries including Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Namibia, India, and Malaysia.
The Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Harrison Belley, commended the regional minister for maintaining strong relations with the media and pledged that the GJA would support the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration with continuous coverage and information dissemination before, during, and after the event.
