Ho-Central CPP against sale of Estate houses

Ho, June 10, GNA – The Ho-Central Constituency branch of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), on Wednesday petitioned government over the sale of estate houses at the Ho Mawuli Estates.

A statement signed by Mr Kosi Dedey, Chairman of the group, asked “the government to reverse this policy of selling the 105 government houses, as it is not in the interest of the state.”

The appeal copied to the Volta Regional Minister, Ho Municipal Chief Executive and Ho-Central branch of National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the CPP considered the policy direction as “irresponsible and a breach of faith.”

It said the move just as many other NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) policies, tendered to “weaken government and its ability to carry out proper infrastructure and human development projects for the benefit of the people”.

The petition said the CPP was disappointed in the government because as opposition political parties, the NDC and CPP had both criticized the NPP for selling government houses in Accra. It said the Ho-Central Constituency branch of the CPP, regarded the authorization of the sale of the houses in Ho as a replica of what happened in Accra under the NPP government.

The statement described the conduct of government as hypocritical and tended to “reduce the confidence of the citizenry in politicians and the democratic process in general” and hoped that the NDC government “will live by principles it espoused” while in opposition. It asked the government to build more houses for public servants and not to sell existing ones or alternatively, it should pull down old houses at the estate and replace them with story building to improve land utilization.
