HIV/AIDS focal persons attend conference in Kumasi

Kumasi, Oct. 23, GNA – Mr Osei-Assibey Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister on Wednesday called for hard work and concerted efforts from all and sundry to ensure significant achievements were made in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the country. He noted that the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS was rolling back years of development in Africa, however, financial constraints, poor infrastructure and lack of skilled health care workers had made it difficult to deal with some of the problems affecting socio-economic development on the Continent.

Mr Antwi made the call at the opening session of a four-day conference for Regional and District Focal Persons of Ghana Aids Commission (GAC) in Kumasi.

The conference being attended by more than 150 focal persons is under the theme “Reposting, Monitoring and Evaluation for Results”. He said Sub-Saharan Africa was struggling to overcome the greatest social, economic and health crises on the globe that included malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.

Mr Antwi expressed appreciation to efforts of GAC to collaborate with stakeholders in health to adopt effective strategies to ensure that key players in the fight against HIV/AIDS upgraded their knowledge and skills to deal with challenges confronting the pandemic. 23 Oct. 08
