HIV/AIDS awareness campaign held at Akim Kotokuom

Akim Kotokoum (E/R), Oct. 25, GNA- The Chairman of the Christian Aids Awareness Outreach, a Community Based Organisation (CBO) at Akim Kotokoum in the Birim North district, Rev. James Ampiaw, has appealed to Ghanaians to adopt behaviours that will alienate them from the HIV/AIDS. Speaking at an HIV/AIDS awareness programme, which was organised by the CBO at Akim Kotokuom on Saturday, he called on Ghanaians to adopt and sustain behaviour worthy of emulation.

Rev. Appiah appealed to all to show love and compassion towards “friends and relatives living with HIV/AIDS for they can plan a significant role in their fight against the disease”. A Senior Midwife at the Akim Nkwanteng Health Centre, Ms Augustina Galley urged people to take advantage of resources and programmes to fight AIDS.

Ms Galley educated the public on how the disease is contracted and advised school children to guard against sharing of tooth-brush, blades while hairdressers should also ensure that they wear gloves while at workplaces.

The District Focal Person on AIDS, Mr Obed Kingston Acquah said the government is spending huge sums of money on the disease and called for a behavioural change among individuals to help contain the pandemic. The chief of Akim Kotokoum, Obrempong Burakye Akoto, 11, who presided reminded the youth that they are the future leaders of the nation and urged them not to do anything that would destroy their future.

He said the HIV/AIDS situation in the country demanded that “an orchestrated approach be used to address it”.
