Hit and run driver nabbed after two years

Accra, July 31, GNA – A driver who knocked down and killed a 25-year-old cyclist on the Graphic Road in Accra in 2004 was dragged to an Accra Circuit Court on Monday following his arrest on July 25 2006. Kojo Adjei is facing charges of careless driving, negligently causing harm, failing to attend to the injured and failing to report an accident. Adjei knocked down and killed Abdulai Mijida at Beyeeman Cold Store on the Graphic Road.

The court did not take Adjei’s plea and remanded him into Police custody to reappear on August 7. Prosecuting Chief Inspector Cecilia Yeboah said on May 17, 2004 Adjei was driving a Mercedes Benz bus with registration number GW 8063 R from Kaneshie to CMB lorry station. The Prosecution said as he drove through the traffic light near Toyota Ghana Limited another cyclist suddenly entered the road from the left and in an attempt to avoid hitting him, he swerved into the left lane killing Mijida instantly. Adjei abandoned his vehicle, failed to attend to Mijida, fled the scene and went into hiding for two years.
