Hit-and-run driver grabbed

A driver who fled after he hit and killed a pedestrian at Anwomaso in Kumasi has been arrested by the police.

Emmanuel Hackson Adjei was put before a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mr D.W.P. Amedior, on Thursday, charged with dangerous driving and refusing to report an accident.

His plea was not taken and was granted bail in the sum of Ghc10,000.00 with two sureties to report once every week to assist with police investigations.

The accused would make his next court appearance on Friday, July 18.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Doris Amewu said the incident happened on June 11, at about 2100 hours.

Adjei was driving a KIA mini-bus to Anwomaso and on reaching Mckeon Junction he knocked down the deceased, Yaw Owusu Achiaw, who had just returned to the country from the United States (US).

The accused refused to stop to help send the victim to the hospital and drove off and went into hiding until his arrest driving the same vehicle at Apromase.

He admitted the offence in his caution statement.
