HIPC Funded Health Centre Commissioned

New Takoradi, Dec 01, GNA – Mrs Gladys Asmah, the Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, on Wednesday called on the people to patronise health facilities to ensure proper treatment.

She made the call when commissioning a 289 million-cedi funded with HIPC funds at New Takoradi.

Mrs Asmah said some health facilities built by the government at great cost are not being well patronised and that plans are afoot to build quarters at the centre for the medical personnel who would man it as well as two 16-seat KVIP in the community.

Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the Metropolitan Health Insurance Scheme would be launched on December 2.

He said modalities and facilities have been put in place for the take off of the scheme in the area.

Mr Nkrumah said the World Bank has approved 1.6 million dollars for the implementation of the Urban Four project in the Metropolis. He said New Takoradi is one of the communities in the area that would benefit from the project that would include drains, roads and streetlights.

Dr Linda Van-Otoo, Metropolitan Director of Health, advised the people to co-operate with the medical personnel at the centre to enable them to discharge their duties efficiently.
