A High court is expected to begin hearing of the murder case involving Gregory Afoko, the suspect held over the murder of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s Upper East regional chairman Adams Mahama.
This has become necessary following the decision of the magistrate court hearing the case to admit the various evidence adduced by the prosecution against the suspect in the trial.
According to Starr News’ Wilberforce Asare, the evidence included bottles of acid they found with him and his cloths which contained acid at the time he was arrested in connection with the murder.
Background
On May 20, 2015, Mahama, a contractor, was showered with acid when he was returning home from work about 11 p.m. He died a day later at the hospital but was said to have mentioned Afoko and one Alangdi as his assailants.
In the course of investigations the Police said they retrieved a blue-black track suit with burns in it from Afoko’s room, and a report from the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), following a forensic examination, showed that the burns were acid burns. He was subsequently arrested and has been standing trial since.
