HFC Bank holds health awareness campaign

Accra, Aug. 20, GNA – The HFC Bank Ghana Limited on Saturday organized a health awareness campaign within the environs of Accra central to draw attention to the essence of healthy living and bring to the attention of esteemed customers and potential ones the transformation of the Bank from a mortgage company to a universal bank. The programme, which was on the theme: “good banking, healthy living”, involved a free health examination package of dietary advice, checking of blood pressure levels and weight by medical professionals from the C&J Medicare Hospital.

The bank officials also used the day to educate participants on the full range of services being offered since the change about two years ago.

Mrs Mary Asare-Yebaoh, HFC Branch Manager, Accra Central, told journalists that the bank had slashed the minimum amount required to open an account to 50,000 cedis for the purposes of the day to encourage potential customers to open both savings and current accounts. She explained that the idea was to help potential customers especially, market women, shop owners and low net worth sellers to make use of the various services of the bank as well as to cultivate the habit of savings.

Besides the idea was to attract the loose funds, which are currently outside the banking sector, she said.

Dr Phillip Amekudzi, Deputy Medical Director, C&J Medicare Hospital, stressed the importance of daily exercise and regular medical check up by all individuals to enable them to know their health status and take the necessary precaution to avoid premature death. He said it was also important that people avoided certain lifestyles, especially the crave for fatty foods, since they were potential sources of many diseases.

Dr Amekudzi emphasized good intake of vegetables and fruits, fish and chicken to reduce the risk of hypertension and being overweight.
