Kumasi, Sept 26, GNA – A Kumasi circuit court has granted a 18,000 Ghana cedis bail with two sureties to be justified to Mohammed Yaw Manu, a herbalist, for allegedly giving some concoction to a woman to abort her five-month old pregnancy that led to her death. Manu, 55, pleaded not guilty to the charge and will reappear before the court presided over by Mr Kwabena Adutwum Mmorosah on September 27. Assistant Superintendent of Police George Appiah-Sakyi told the court that the deceased, who lived with her husband, Kwaku Asiedu at Amoafo-Bekwai, went to the suspect on September 5, to help her abort the pregnancy.
The suspect prepared the herbal concoction and gave it to her to drink. Three days later, the deceased fell ill and was taken to a hospital but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she died on admission.
He said the father of the deceased, Mr Kwaku Akwaboah, reported the matter to the police and the suspect was arrested. 26 Sept 07
