Saltpond (C/R), Feb. 7, GNA – The Medical Superintendent of the Saltpond District Hospital, Dr Abraham Matey, has appealed to the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council to include the access roads to the Hospital in the first phase of the Saltpond Town Roads Rehabilitation Project.
Patients should not go home cured of the diseases that brought them but with other ailments from the dust they inhaled at the hospital, he stated at the annual end-of-year get-together of the staff at Saltpond. The Medical Superintendent said the dusty nature of the roads was not only an inconvenience to patients but to the hospital administration as well, since huge sums of money had to be spent every week on laundry services and other cleaning purposes.
“We cannot wait again for the project to go to a second phase, which only God knows when it will begin,” Dr Matey said.
He appealed to the government and donor agencies to provide the hospital with a new ambulance, saying, “The maintenance of the over-aged one we are using is a drain on the resources of the hospital”. The Medical Superintendent said another problem was the irregular flow of water and asked for a tanker to be provided to save the Hospital from the huge amount it was spending to ensure constant supply. Mr Abraham Ato Ahinful, Chairman of the Hospital Advisory Committee, assured the Hospital Administration of the Committee’s co-operation to solve the problems of the staff to ensure efficient services.
Mr Hayford Frimpong, Hospital Administrator, said an Information and Complaints Desk had been set up and urged people who were not satisfied with services at the Hospital to lodge their complaints for redress. Awards were presented to hard working members of staff with Dr Kwabena Sarpong taking the Best Worker Award for 2006.
