Help maintain peace in Shai-Osudoku

Accra, Dec 17, GNA – Mr Daniel Christian Dugan, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Shai-Osudoku Constituency, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to help reduce tension in the area to ensure absolute peace.

In a petition to the IGP and copied to the press, Mr Dugan alleged that after the December 7 General Elections, some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) within the Constituency meted out acts of violence against him and some party faithfuls.

“Even though the general elections in the Constituency were incident-free, the aftermath with the NDC poised to ‘discipline’ the NPP is a cause for alarm.”

Mr Dugan, a Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs (MOWAC), who lost the parliamentary seat to the NDC candidate in the just-ended elections alleged that provocative languages and threats spewing out from the NDC group, “is raising tension in the Constituency.”

He expressed worry about the current political atmosphere in the area, and lamented, “I do not feel safe in the home of my ancestors for doing nothing wrong other than contesting on the ticket of the NPP.” The Deputy MOWAC Minister recalled two incidents in the aftermath of the elections, and alleged that in the evening of the elections day, the local NDC perpetuated acts of violence on NPP members, one near the Osudoku Shrine, and the other at a town called Kadjanya.

He therefore, appealed to the IGP to use his good offices to conduct investigations into the alleged acts of violence, and to ensure that the perpetrators are made to face the full rigours of the law.
