Help curb absenteeism – Assembly Member

Mankessim, Jan 26, GNA – Assembly member for Ahenbronmu-Anaafo Electoral Area at Mankessim, Mr. Vincent Biney-Amissah has expressed concern about absenteeism of school pupils in the area during market days.

Mr. Biney-Amissah said the situation was getting out of hand and advised parents and guardians to collaborate with teachers in checking it.

Speaking to GNA at Mankessim, the Assembly Member said some visits he paid to schools in his area showed poor attendance.

“My greatest concern was for JSS three students who would soon write their BECE but did not see the need to go to school for teachers to teach them,” he said.

“Incidentally when they fail their BECE it is the teachers who are blamed for that with the parents forgetting that they allowed them to fool about when they were supposed to be in the classroom”. Mr. Biney-Amissah who is a private businessman appealed to Parent Teacher Associations and School Management Committees to address the issue.

He said the future of Mankessim would be bleak if the situation was allowed to continue.
