Help change wrong public perception on GES

Kumasi, Oct. 22, GNA – Public Relations Officers (PROs), of the Ghana Education Service (GES), have been urged to defend the good image of the Service, by managing wrong public perception of the Service. Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, who made the call, said “as PROs, it is your duty to positively position the Service in a way that the public would know the achievements being made in the education industry.”

Opening a two-day workshop for Ashanti Regional Education PROs in Kumasi, Mr Onyinah expressed concern about media insensitiveness to the good things the Service was doing as well as the successes being chalked.

The Regional Director of Education pointed out that, the region, of late, has been achieving the ultimate in National Best Teacher Awards ceremonies but media attention on such achievements had been minimal. “The media has been highlighting on only bad things and rather shelve the good ones that could motivate positive attitudes in the Service.” Mr Onyinah therefore urged PROs to bring out the good and positive news about the Service, to balance the opposite stories. “You have to create good image for the institution.”

On the challenges confronting Senior High Schools (SHS), especially with regard to the intake of fresh students, the Regional Director urged the PROs to conduct researches to understand the realities of the situation, so they could inform the public. Mr Owusu Agyemang, Regional PRO said the workshop was aimed at equipping them with the requisite knowledge and skills to manage crisis.
