Help address youth indiscipline – PM urges chiefs

Obuasi, May 04, GNA – A presiding member has appealed to chiefs and queen mothers to put in place structures that would help address youth indiscipline.

Nana Asirifi Asare II, the Presiding member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, said the increasing reports of violence and lawlessness of the youth should be condemned by all especially chiefs. Inaugurating the Obuasiman ‘Adikrofo’ and ‘Mmaapanin’ Association at Obuasi, Nana Asirifi Asare appealed to chiefs to develop local programmes that would help eliminate all traits of lawlessness among the youth.

“You should see yourselves as agents of change in your communities and therefore you should endeavour to change the minds of the youth to become development-oriented so that they can assist you to mobilize the people to initiate self-help projects”.

Nana Asirifi Asare urged the ‘Adikrofo’ and the ‘Mmaapanin’ to develop interest in the activities of the assembly and to regularly visit the place to discuss their development plans. He appealed to them to embrace the capitation grant and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by encouraging parents to send their children to school and also educating their people to register with the scheme.

Mr S.F. Adjei, Ashanti Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), appealed to queen mothers in the region to consider the re-introduction of puberty rites to help regulate the seemingly foreign lifestyles of young girls. He wondered why most of the nation’s cultural practices were eroding and condemned the over-imitation of foreign cultures by Ghanaians.
