Hellofood marks World Food Day; donates to Teshie Orphanage

As part of activities to mark World Food Day 2015, HelloFood Ghana, led by its Managing Director, Mr. Sofiène Marzouki, donated assorted food items and toiletries to the Teshie Orphanage in Accra.

The event held Thursday October 29, 2015, forms part of steps, by the online food delivery market place, to support the eradication of hunger in Africa.

According to Mr. Marzouki, in sub-Saharan African, food insecurity and malnutrition is recorded at 27%, that is, one out of every four Africans suffer from it. He also revealed that 67% of people living in some regions in Ghana, lived below the poverty line of GH¢ 4.00 per day.

However, Mr. Marzouki was quick to add that there was a lot of food surplus in Accra, hence, the company’s drive to push some of the excess to those who are less sufficient.

On behalf of Mrs. Parker, the proprietress of the orphanage, management and inmates of the Teshie Orphanage, Ms. Jenette expressed the gratitude of the orphanage to HelloFood Ghana and called upon more corporate bodies and individuals to assist the orphanage.

Although HelloFood has been involved in similar donations across the globe, this was the first of its kind in Ghana. Mr. Marzouki mentioned that this was the first of many more activities to be undertaken by HelloFood Ghana as part of its commitment to support the growth of the society.

Some of the food items donated to the orphanage were gathered from contributions made by patrons of the online food delivery platform.

World Food Day is an annual day of action against hunger, established in 1945 with the creation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. People around the world come together on that day to contribute towards the eradication of hunger globally.
